Day Seventeen

Last week Callum at long last was invested at Beavers. It's only taken us since July 2009 to get there. lol. Anyway yesterday I had to try and figure out where all the badges went on his jumper and sew them on which to me is a horrible task, I hate sewing. All but one of the badges got sewn on in time. Here's Callum all ready to head off to Beavers.

Day Sixteen

For Christmas we bought Callum one of those make it yourself kits which was to make your own baseball cap. I thought it would be something fun for him and I to do together. Turns out I was wrong. The pack made it look nice and simple but boy was I wrong, I couldn't even figure out what the instructions were telling me to do so Callum had no chance and they made it very fiddly. In the end Callum suggested that he sit and play with his Lego and talk to me while I did it on my own. So that's what we did and I managed to work out my own way of making the cap. OK it doesn't really look like it does on the packet but hey it's a hat! And Callum loves it!

Day Fifteen

Today Callum was well enough to go back to school which made him happy. You would never had guessed he'd been off ill! What was also good about this was that it meant he could still do his role in his schools Class Assembly. Daz and I were so proud of him having landed one of the main roles because for so many years Callum has had a little bit of a speech problem, this showed us that he had overcome those problems. Sadly Daz couldn't get the time off work to see the assembly but I was there to watch and report back. And how wonderful he was, he was very clearly spoken, he remembered his lines and he looked comfortable. He did make me chuckle though. Because he had been off sick the day before they had gotten one of his class mates to learn his lines and take over his parts in case Callum wasn't well enough. Thankfully Callum still got to do his lines but one other part he was meant to do was a bit of ballroom dancing with one of the girls in his class (Shivani). Instead one of his best friends Josh got to dance with Shivani. Callum spent the whole time glaring at poor Josh.

As a reward for doing so well I said I'd buy him a little present, which I did, actually I bought several, and when we got home he was allowed to choose two things from what I'd bought. Callum chose a packet of sweets and a Doodle book. We then spent a bit of time after homework had been done colouring in his doodle book. I like having these little moments just Callum and I, it's nice to sit at the table colouring and talking away about anything.

Day Fourteen

I was up last night with a sick Callum so today he's been at home. Now Callum is one of those children who even though ill doesn't rest up, he just can't. He did start off with good intentions this morning and he did try but come 11am he was going a bit stir crazy. I've managed to keep him sort of occupied by watching some cartoons and TV but he's desperate to do more than sit on a sofa watching TV and eating more than just a slice of toast. What Callum really wants to do is... yes you've guessed it, play computer games. Of course I've told him he can't and I'll give him credit he is trying to chill out and watch TV. Also doesn't he do the "woe is me act" well? Look below.

Day Thirteen

Sorry no photo or video footage from today. Callum had me up early in the morning, then we had Daz' parents come visit and then before we knew it it was evening time, then bedtime and then well Callum was ill again. :(

What memory do I have from today though? Hmm.. Callum going with Daz and his parents to walk Dash to the shop to buy some milk. Callum wanted to take his scooter or bike with him. As we couldn't find the scooter the bike it was. They all headed off but just before I noticed that Callum's back will was a little flat. "No problems Mummy I'll just peddle harder." I don't know how far he did ride the bike but he came back home before any of the others on his own two feet, next was Daz holding the bike and then came my in-laws with the dog. So now we have to find the bicycle pump and sort that back wheel out. lol.

Day Twelve

As I've said before Lego is a huge hit with Callum and he has plenty of it. As also mentioned before he got the Lego City Garage for Christmas which we've been building bit by bit. Yesterday we finished. Well I say we it was I in fact that built most of it, Callum's job was to find bits I couldn't and pick up bits I dropped and I couldn't get down to pick up. Anyway here's the finished result, only took a couple hours for this pregnant Mum to build and Callum is under strict instructions to not demolish it like it does everything else. See that's how it goes, Mum builds it while Callum sort of watches, Mum finishes buidling said piece, Callum plays with said piece, Callum throws a bomb at said piece and demolishes it. lol.

Day Eleven

Yes we do tell him to not sit so close but kids will be kids. *sigh*

Fridays are Callum's computer day time, well one of the days obviously weekends a game can be played but we also allow Monday's. At the moment he is very much into playing Rachet and Clank which we got him as a present just before Christmas, he loves the game and has already finished it (I think) three times. As a way of encouragement for good behaviour, doing well at school etc we have a reward scheme where if by the end of the month if Callum hasn't gotten say five X's for bad behaviour etc he get a present, what that present is all depends on what money we have available (if any), sometimes it's just a small toy car. Callum never complains though and is always happy with his prize. This month we'd told him that he could have the sequel game of Rachet and Clank and because he has been so brilliant we let him have it a little bit early this month. So Friday he got his new game.

See that rug just behind him? He's meant to be sitting on that!

Day Ten

For Christmas Callum got a magic set. He'd been asking for one for a few months and we'd even been to the library to borrow some books on magic tricks so as you can imagine this was a great present in his eyes. This morning we were treated to Callum's Magic Trick Card Tricks, the one where you have to pick any card, look at it and not show him. All I'll say is that he needs to work on the trick a bit more... and not have a wicked Mum who knows how it works so goes against it. Yes I am wicked.

Day Nine

One of Callum's favourite T.V. shows at the moment is Bamzooki which is a fun show where kids get to create online their own "robot" and then participate in various challenges. Even as a 36 year old I find it quite fun. A few weeks ago we downloaded the programme to make our own Bamzooki but hadn't got round to making one. That was until yesterday. I'm still trying to figure out bits but when I do I'll show you our very own Bamzooki that Callum and I created. It was a great way to spend half hour or so.

Tuesday 19 January 2010

Day Eight

Yesterday Callum and I were looking at some photos and I showed him this photo:

It's of my Mum, my sister Frankie and brother Joe. At first Callum didn't think it was an old photo as "Well Nanny still looks likes that.".

So then somehow we ended up with a quick photo moment where Callum tried to do the pose of his Uncle Joe. A lot of people comment how the two look very similar. What do you think?

I think I can see some similarities.

Later that evening when I was putting Callum to bed we then had a little chat about Bumpy. Callum wanted to know if Bumpy was sleeping too and put his hand on Bumpy then whispered ever so quietly "Night Bumpy, have good dreams.". We then quietely chatted about what names we had picked out for Bumpy. Callum laughed at the boys names stating that Leonardo was a footballers name. He then said that we couldn't use the name Summer as he has a Summer at school. What name did he think we should call Bumpy when they are born? Well Bumpy. lol. He thinks that Bumpy will be used to being called that name and best not to confuse them. Kids logic.

Day Seven

I haven't gotten round to do yesterdays entry due to a technical hitch which I'm really hoping can be fixed tonight when hubby gets home.

I'm lucky in that from a young age Callum has understood the importance of tidying up. Sure you'll get the odd occasion when you tread on a piece of Lego in his bedroom in the dark when you go to check on him at nighttime, or you'll find a car being chewed by Dash who is hiding behind the sofa and other such, but they aren't biggies and don't often happen. However one thing you'll find that Callum does leave over the place is the scene below. He's sort of 50/50 about tidying up his drawing stuff. lol.

Day Six

I did orginally want to post a video clip of Callum's typical madness but sadly I can't get the video to upload off the camcorder. So instead I'll post an old clip of Callum one christmas time singing Jingle Bells. lol.

This was December 2006 so Callum was about 3.5 years old.

Here's a better link as I can't seem to get it to work properly here.

Saturday 16 January 2010

Day Five

When I was pregnant I had huge cravings for melon, any melon would do but it was mostly water melon. Seems that craving paid off because melon is something that Callum loves, he'd probably have it every day now! Today Daz went and did the weekly food shopping and was happy to see that they had whole water melons on a special deal (£2) so he bought one. You can imagine the face on Callum when Daz got home. The thing is Callum's now asking if he can have some to eat. Well I say some he actually wants the whole thing! lol.

Friday 15 January 2010

Day Four

"I'm the best there is, at what I do!"

Our son is a geek!

Nothing wrong with that his Dad definitely is one and seems like I'm not too bad on the old geekness too. From a young age Callum has known who Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Silver Surfer, Thor, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman etc etc are and these days he can run circles round his friends with his Super Hero knowledge. Last summer we even donated to the school a huge bunch of age suitable comics from our collection which was great especially when I caught the kids sitting outside reading them in the mornings before school started, you have to remember I live in England so comics aren't as readily available as say they would be the other side of the pond and don't get me started on costs.

Anyway lately we've been watching Super Hero Squad and Wolverine and the X-Men cartoons which if you haven't seen yet I highly recommend, Marvel's site has some Super Hero Squad episodes to watch online. We've also just started watching Batman: The Brave and the Bold which is really great viewing too.

As you can imagine there is always some form of Super Hero conversation going on in our household and goodness knows how many action figures are lurking about. lol. Which brings me on to today's post.

Conversation this morning while Callum and I were having breakfast.

Callum: "Mummy you're Ms. Marvel."

Me: "OK, why is that?"

Callum: "You are good on the computer and always on there. I'm Wolverine, I'm the best at what I do."

Me:... in my head "hmm so being a monkey is what Wolverine does best is it?"

Callum: "Daddy is Thor."

Me: "Thor?"

Callum: "Yes, Thor. And he has gone for a haircut, Thor needs a haircut, they both do.".

Me: Uncontrollable laughter.

I do love these little conversations with Callum, it's like you get that little insight into what goes on in his head and obviously today he thinks that Daddy needs a haircut. lol.

"Verily I need a haircut."

Day Three

Full Marks!

Every Friday at school Callum has a spelling test. How it goes is that on Friday he gets sent home with his blue homework folder which has a task in to be done by Wednesday of the following week and a list of spellings to be learnt for the following Friday. Each Friday they get tested and given new spellings to learn. Also the class is split into colour co-ordinated groups depending on the level of learning the child is up to. Red is the top group and they have to learn all twenty words. Of course the lower groups can go beyond their group if they wish but there is not any pressure to do so. Callum is in yellow group which is the one below red but he likes to do all the words and pretty much gets them all right. We start to learn the new words on a Tuesday and on Wednesday and Thursday we have our own mini spelling test. Usually on the Tuesday there will be one or two words that Callum will get wrong but by Wednesday/Thursday he knows how to spell them. Then once a month I retest Callum on a selection of words that he has learnt that month, just to keep him on his toes. This week as you can see from the above photo there were a few tough words but most were easy. And that's the other thing. I'm amazed at times the words that Callum finds easy to spell and the ones he finds hard, "because" was a word he found really really easy to spell, got it right first time yet a word like "morning" that is spelt how it pretty much sounds out he had trouble with. I'm pretty confident he'll do well tomorrow.

And as you can tell he was mighty happy he got 20/20 in tonight's spelling test.

YESSSS!!

Wednesday 13 January 2010

Day Two

This is the bottom of Callum's bed. I can pretty much remember when each of those cuddly toys was bought/given and the story behind them. So many memories held at the bottom of the bed. Of course Callum's ultimate favourite (BBB) has a special place at the top of the bed. But you'll meet BBB another day.

Tuesday 12 January 2010

Day One

Those that know Callum know how much he loves cars. Well not just cars, vehicles. I shudder to think at the exact number of cars he must own. Another thing that Callum loves is Lego so it is a good thing that you can get handy little packages of Lego vehicles. This is part of a set that Callum got for Christmas. If you enter into Callum's room you will pretty much 99.9% of the time find some form of Lego vehicle (actually more like several) constructed and dotted around his bedroom.

About

Firstly I should maybe explain the blog title. When I was pregnant with Callum (and at the time I didn't know he was a little boy) this was our little song, we did go everywhere together. It has since stuck with being our song and even though their Beloved Monster is a girl and mines a boy the words are true. Life with Callum does help you get through living in a world that is so damn mean.

Right next! About this blog! 2010 is going to bring a lot of changes to life as Callum knows it. Why? Well this year he'll no longer be an only child but a big brother to a little brother or sister (he's desperately hoping for a brother). We have a very emotional Callum at the moment with lots of questions and worries. Mostly he is worried where his place in our hearts will be. As I tell him he'll always be my special little boy, he was the first one to make me a Mummy and nothing can replace my love for him. Anyhow I thought this blog would be a way to help ease him through this year, well hopefully do so. Lets see.

So I hope you join us on our travels through 2010, mostly it'll be by photo and things that remind me of typical every day life with Callum.
